Youth and Family Connections Team (YaFCT)
The YAFCT program has three services components: Reconnect, Family Mediation and Early Intervention with 15 and 16 year olds.
Reconnect is a Federally funded program directed at addressing youth homelessness and family breakdown. The St Luke's Reconnect is an early intervention program that works with young people aged between 13 and 15 years who at risk of leaving school and /or experiencing family difficulties. Reconnect workers are linked to four secondary schools; Eaglehawk, Maryborough, Castlemaine, and Weeroona and referrals also come from Centrelink.
Family Mediation is a conflict resolution program offered to young people and their families. It aims to provide a process for resolving conflicts and making agreements about issues, which concern both the young person and their family.
The Early Intervention program works with young people and their families from the Bendigo area with a focus on family reconciliation and reconnection. The target group is 15 and 16 year old first time home leavers and their families who require support in working through family conflict/reconnection issues. Family mediation and conflict resolution are available as part of this support.
The team works for a short intensive period (up to 8 weeks) to assist the young person/family at a time when youth homelessness and family disconnection may otherwise be the result.
