Linda
Beilharz
Antarctic conqueror and a woman with attitude
On December 29 last year Linda Beilharz became the first Australian
woman to ski from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole, following
in the footsteps of legendary explorers such as Amundsen, Shackleton
and Scott.
During the epic 56-day journey, she and her four other intrepid
team members battled their way through treacherous conditions, including
blizzards and minus-50-degree temperatures to achieve their mission.
“I was certainly tempted to say: ‘Let’s stop and
rest for a week’,” Linda said.
“But I would never have given up.”
Linda’s extraordinary triumph is testament to not only her
physical strength and courage, but to the dogged sense of self-belief
that pushed her, inch by inch, across that vast white landscape.
A fascinating and engaging public speaker, she eloquently conveys
the drive, determination and courage it takes to face any of life’s
challenges.
Linda is also a recognised leader in her professional career, speaking
regularly on the principles of creating healthy and safe communities.
She works for St Luke’s Anglicare, an organisation which has
pioneered strength-based approaches to working with vulnerable families
and communities.
She has also recently published a book based on her work experiences,
entitled Building Communities: The Shared Action Experience.
Linda’s story will inspire her audiences to set their own
goals and have the pluck to go out and achieve them, whether they
be conquering one of the last wildernesses on earth, climbing Mount
Everest, meeting sales targets or fostering strong community ties.
Topics she addresses include goal-setting, leadership and creating
stronger communities through teamwork.
Her presentations are essential listening for community groups or
business organisations seeking inspiration and ideas for tackling
their own “South Poles”.
In addition to public speaking, Linda also conducts one and two
day training in “Building Communities of Hope”, a workshop
aimed at community leaders and community workers.
