Support for families and individuals in the Central Goldfields Shire 

The Maryborough office provides a range of youth and family, mental health, financial counseling and gambler’s help services 

Child and family services 

At times when families need extra support, Children and Family Services (CAFS) may be able to assist by working together with the family to find solutions for the difficulties. 

Recovery focused mental health services 

This service provides individual and group support for adults with mental health issues. Our workers offer education about mental health, provide advocacy and offer assistance to help people achieve their education, community connectedness and employment related goals. Respite for carers of those with a mental illness is also accessible. Specialist programs for young people with a mental illness are provided with a group for women with depression and anxiety periodically available. 

Financial Counseling 

This service provides free, confidential information and support, particularly in relation to debt issues. A financial counselor can: 

  • explain options if people cannot pay debts,
  • assist with negotiations with creditors,
  • provide information about government entitlements and
  • provide information on bankruptcy. 

Reconnect 

Reconnect helps young people who are homeless and those at risk of homelessness to become more involved with their family, work, education, training and the community through mediation, counseling and practical support for the whole family. 

Gambler’s Help Counseling

This service offers a range of strategies to assist people deal with gambling issues. They include free and confidential therapeutic and financial counseling and support to individuals and their families in relation to problem gambling. 

The Gambler’s Help program also provides community education programs to raise awareness of gambling issues and consultation and training for other health professionals in relation to Problem Gambling
