No Interest Loans Scheme
The No Interest Loans Scheme project provides small no-interest loans to low income individuals and families for the purchase of essential household items, medical equipment and items such as computers. Loans are repaid over 12-18 months at an affordable amount.
Based on the model developed by the Good Shepherd Child & Family Services in 1981, the St Luke’s project began work in 2007 with volunteers in rural communities to develop loans schemes throughout the Loddon Mallee region.
St Luke’s has three community development workers who assist in recruiting and training volunteers to run the schemes. By December 2009 the establishment of schemes within the region will be complete.
