Out of Home Care

What is Out of Home Care?

A resource available to families for care of their children. Placement out of home occurs on a temporary or longer term basis:

While family problems are being addressed.
When it is not appropriate for a child/ren to remain at home.
When no other alternative is available.
In the caregiver's home. Caregivers are a Resource.
Providing out of home care for children.
Available while families use their own skills and strengths to find solutions.
Adding to families' strengths and skills to help them achieve goals.
Open to learning and being surprised by themselves and others.
Willing to share their everyday knowledge and experience.

Couples with Children

People in town
People out of town
People who provide a safe, respectful environment for children

 

Who are the Children?

Children 0 - 16 years
Sibling groups
Children who stay overnight or a few days
Children needing longer term care
Children whose behaviour is challenging
Children awaiting permanent care or adoption
Children with a range of disabilities


What Assistance is Available?

Caregiving with St Luke's is voluntary. A team of family workers and other caregivers offer 24hr support and assistance. Training is provided. A reimbursement is paid to compensate costs.
