136 Project

‘136’ is a child centred project focusing on the health, growth and development of children aged 0-6 years.

WHAT IS CHILD FOCUSED?

All adults have an appreciation and respect for children.
The well being of children is put first and people advocate on their behalf.

‘136’ is located at 136 Williamson Street Bendigo, and aims to:

Focus on the physical health, emotional well being and development of the child.
Considers the child in his/her social context.
Provide greater opportunities for parents to enhance their skills and strengths in parenting.
Linking disconnected families with their communities.

PRINCIPLES:

All participants have the right to be respected
Power should be shared through equal opportunities for participants
136 should be socially just, safe and attempt to meet everyone’s needs
participants are given the opportunity to explore their own strengths to solve the ‘problem’
resources (physical/personal) should be shared to assist with change

‘136’ is an old red brick house with character and a warm welcoming feel. The facilities include bathing; cooking, sleeping and a large secure play area, which provides children and their families an opportunity to learn more about each other.

Supervised contacts between children in Out of Home Care and their parents take place daily at ‘136’ in a child friendly environment, rather than in an office setting, public playground or other venues that don’t provide families with privacy or the same opportunities to further develop parenting skills and enhance learning.

The environment and resources at ‘136’ enable parents and carers to learn new skills in their role as primary caregivers. There is also a Caregiver Resource Room located at ‘136’ to provide support and resources for Caregivers caring for children in Out of Home Care.
