Initial
assessment - for significant wellbeing referrals & complex or
other Family Services referrals

For Significant Wellbeing referrals
and Complex or Other Family Services referrals not previously known
to Family Services, an initial assessment of risks and needs will
be undertaken.

Current or previous referrals will be
redirected to a local Family Services agency. In addition to
information provided by the referrer, information will be gathered
from other agencies, services and professionals who may be involved
with the family. Where appropriate and with consent of the family,
extended family can be contacted.

Significant Wellbeing referrals, where
significant risk indicators and high need is identified, will be
prioritised for immediate further assessment, response and active
engagement.

Complex and Other Family Services
referrals will be presented at the next allocation meeting within 7
days of referral. These cases may have further assessment or
priority allocation to Family Services. (Guidelines to be developed
by Alliance).

Child FIRST Indigenous intake worker
will be allocated the case and/or Indigenous Family Services agency
will be consulted when the child referred is
Aboriginal.

Community Based Child Protection
Worker may be consulted for Significant Wellbeing Concerns, Complex
and Other Cases.
Child FIRST
further assessment

Further assessments will be undertaken
by Child FIRST for Significant Wellbeing Concerns & Complex
cases, in particular, when the client is not willing to engage.
Further assessments may involve immediate response to ensure
stability, outreach to engage client and conduct a more
comprehensive assessment.

For Indigenous clients, further
assessments will be undertaken by the Indigenous
worker.

Outreach visits to further assess SWB
referrals in particular will be undertaken by two
workers.

CBCPW may assist with families
requiring further assessment.

The maximum period for these
assessments will be three weeks.
