7.2 Community Based Child Protection
Community Based Child Protection (CBCP) is a term used to describe a range of practices in regional Child Protection programs that support the partnership and service delivery of community based Child and Family Services and Child Protection. Community Based Child Protection is a key component of Child FIRST/Family Services.
Community Based Child Protection teams are comprised of the Child Protection Community Partnerships Unit manager and Community Based Child Protection Workers (CBCPW).  CBCPW’s are employed, supervised and line managed within the Child Protection program. The primary authorizing environment for CBCPW practice is the C.Y.F.A 2005 and current Child Protection standards and guidelines.
S.38 of the CYFA 2005 allows for registered community based child and family services, including Child FIRST to consult with Child Protection in respect to any matter relating to the role and function of the community based child and family service’s work with vulnerable families. This can include a simple query as to whether or not a child is known to Child Protection and can extend to requests for advice relating to a current client of the community based child and family service who may or may not be clients of Child Protection.
